The Call of Duty team recently shared an exciting update for August 2025, focusing on Black Ops 7 and addressing community feedback, anti-cheat measures, and upcoming content reveals. Here’s a recap of the key points from the Call of Duty blog post.

A Community-Driven Franchise

The update begins with gratitude to the Call of Duty community, whose feedback, gameplay, and passion have shaped the franchise. The team acknowledges recent discussions about the series’ identity, with some fans feeling it has strayed from its immersive, intense, and grounded roots. In response, Black Ops 7, developed by Treyarch and Raven, aims to be a spiritual successor to Black Ops 2 while introducing bold innovations across Multiplayer, Zombies, Co-Op Campaign, and Dead Ops Arcade 4.

To ensure Black Ops 7 feels authentic to its setting and the core Call of Duty experience, Operator Skins and Weapons from Black Ops 6 will not carry forward to Black Ops 7.

Key Changes in Black Ops 7

No Carry-Forward for Black Ops 6 Content

To ensure Black Ops 7 feels authentic to its setting and the core Call of Duty experience, Operator Skins and Weapons from Black Ops 6 will not carry forward to Black Ops 7. However, Double XP tokens and GobbleGums will transfer, respecting players’ time and progression. This change is exclusive to Black Ops 7, and Black Ops 6 content remains usable in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Enhanced Anti-Cheat Measures

Cheating continues to be a major concern, and the team is doubling down with the RICOCHET anti-cheat system. Building on progress made in Black Ops 6, Black Ops 7 will introduce:

  • PC Requirements: Starting November 14, 2025, PC players must enable Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 to strengthen cheat prevention at the system level.
  • New Detection Systems: Improved detection and mitigation systems will roll out, with some tested during the Beta and the full suite launching with the game. These aim to identify and remove cheaters faster, ensuring fair play.

Responding to Feedback

The team is committed to delivering a Black Ops 7 experience that aligns with the franchise’s core identity. Bundles and items will be designed to fit the Black Ops aesthetic, balancing immersion with the intense gameplay fans expect. Treyarch will share more details in the coming weeks, incorporating community feedback into the game’s development.

What to Expect in Black Ops 7

The update teases exciting reveals for Black Ops 7, including:

  • Multiplayer: New maps, weapons, systems, refined movement, and enhancements to core gameplay.
  • Zombies: Details on launch content, a new Wonder Vehicle, the Dark Aether version of the original crew, and new gameplay systems rewarding dedicated players.
  • Progression and Rewards: For the first time, players can earn XP and weapon progression across Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies. Classic Prestige returns alongside new Weapon Prestige, Weekly Challenges in Season 1, and expanded camos and rewards.

Call of Duty: NEXT and Beta Dates

The update highlights key dates for fans:

  • Call of Duty: NEXT: September 30, 2025, featuring the full Multiplayer reveal and more.
  • Early Access Beta: October 2, 2025.
  • Open Beta: October 5–8, 2025, available on all platforms.
